“Of the Same Name” Lyrics

Good Weird

It’s a good weird, like a goat’s beard
As he stands on the mountain top
It’s a sly smile, ‘cause you know I’ll
Start singing and never stop
It’s a small voice making a big choice
That friends don’t understand
It’s a new start with a full heart
For what’s right here in my hand

It’s a fast car in a bug jar
For fireflies to race
It’s a half moon on a tea spoon
Through a computer interface

(Bridge)
It’s a sad, sad day and then you realize
That something’s got to change
And you no longer apologize
When others call you strange

It’s a good weird, like a goat’s beard
As he stands on the mountain top
It’s a sly smile, ‘cause you know I’ll
Start singing and never stop

It’s a fast car in a bug jar
For fireflies to race
It’s a half moon on a tea spoon
Through a computer interface

It’s a good, good, good, good weird
It’s a good, good, good, good weird

How Your Heart Works

I guess I met you on a Sunday, our first walk in the park
Then I wore a Monday grin ‘cause that one day went so well after dark
You didn’t ask me to trust you, didn’t have to, I just did
You allowed me to show you the imperfect me I hid

That’s just how your heart works
That’s just how your life goes
That’s just how your hand feels right in mine
And what your smile shows
It’s how you’re right beside me
For comfort when the world hurts
It’s just how you love me
That’s just how your heart works

I guess you’re sometimes like a journey and always you’re my home
You keep a quiet fire burning for my return to warm my bones
And yes we both need independence, our own footprints in the sand
But there’s a beauty in your presence that I simply understand

That’s just how your heart works
That’s just how your life goes
That’s just how your hand feels right in mine
And what your smile shows
It’s how you’re right beside me
For comfort when the world hurts
It’s just how you love me
That’s just how your heart works

(Bridge)
Sometimes I can’t imagine heaven better than right now
I guess I could go on without you, but really don’t know how

That’s just how your heart works
That’s just how your life goes
That’s just how your hand feels right in mine
And what your smile shows
It’s how you’re right beside me
For comfort when the world hurts
It’s just how you love me
That’s just how your heart works

Music Dude

Use all my strength to go on going
On days when crazy’s overflowing
What I’ve got coming already came and went
All my common sense has done been spent

Stuck in a cellar I’m not buying
Have to laugh just to keep from crying
But I’ve found a secret to get me through the day
A simple melody and I’ve just got to say

Music dude, I want to thank you for the tune
It grabs my heart and brings it home again
So strum a few, your chords linger in my room
I close my eyes and I see your truth my friend

I’m not accustomed to gushing
But your song got my adrenalin rushing
Since I heard it on the radio, I haven’t been the same
Then they went to commercial but never said your name

So Music dude, I want to thank you for the tune
It grabs my heart and brings it home again
So strum a few, your chords linger in my room
I close my eyes and I see your truth my friend

(Bridge)
My heart is flying as the notes begin to soar
Harmonies in waves wash upon the shore
My soul is bursting like lightning from a cloud
I have to sing along, I have to sing out loud

So Music dude, I want to thank you for the tune
It grabs my heart and brings it home again
So strum a few, your chords linger in my room
I close my eyes and I see your truth my friend

Choirboy

I’ve never been drunk, never smoked nothing
Don’t pick a fight just to prove I’m tough
Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah
And who would ‘a thunk I’d pass up cursing?
Keep my mouth shut ‘cause I’m gonna think first
Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah
I may live my life on the straight and narrow
But I can pierce your heart like cupid’s arrow

This choirboy
Will bring you joy
So take my hand
Have faith in your choirboy

Look at my face, you won’t see lying
Crush my soul to see you cry
Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah
Finding my place right here beside you
No one to own; nothing to hide
Oh Yeah, oh yeah yeah
A strong and equal love is what I’m after
So listen as I sing it to the rafters

This choirboy
Will bring you joy
So take my hand
Have faith in your choirboy

(Bridge)
To be clear, I’m not the son of a preacher
But my dear, I know just how to treat ya
And I’m always gonna do you right
Have faith in your choirboy
Repeat chorus

Another Think Coming

We were perfect on paper
We were magic in the moon’s glow
We thought we’d made our escape from gravity’s pull
So far below
And then our “I need you” things turned to Icarus wings
Melting apart
And we came crashing down without a sound
Except the breaking of our hearts

“Good grief,” I said,
“When will this hurting end?
And could we still be friends?
Well, I don’t know,
I don’t think so”

We were happy with forever
At least until forever ended
We thought we’d make our escape from inflicting pain
It’s what we intended
Surprised that we were caught in the pain we brought
To each other’s eyes
While the air was filled with the words we spilled
As we tumbled to goodbyes

“Good grief,” I said,
“When will this hurting end?
And could we still be friends?
Well, I don’t know,
I don’t think so”

Bridge:
Our steps fit the rhythm of our drumming
Our words fit the tune we were humming
The place we find ourselves so different from what we thought
And now we’ve got another think coming

“Good grief,” I said,
“When will this hurting end?
And could we still be friends?
Well, I don’t know,
I don’t think so”

Famous For Being You

Living a little louder, standing out from the crowd
Until someone knows your name, puts your picture in a frame
Your social networks pages filled with likes and rage
Against all you disapprove, said in your better than thou groove

And you’re famous for being you
Famous for being you
Famous for being you
So famous for being you

Got your own TV channel and a master plan
That will take the place of work, no more digging I n the dirt
Less than subtle games you’re playing amplify what you say
To a headline on the net, how many hits you get?

And are you famous for being you?
Famous for being you
Famous for being you
So famous for being you

(Bridge)
With thoughts right off the top of your head
Posted to your global thread
You pick at people’s scars
And then you say “I’m sorry,
I didn’t mean exactly what I said”

So don’t you beg their pardon, who died and made them warden
Don’t they know just who you are, don’t hate on a superstar

Who is famous for being you
Famous for being you
Famous for being you
So famous for being you

If There Were Words

If there were words
I’d sing you to the mountain top
If there were words
We could touch the sky
If there were words
We’d reach the summit and never stop
If there were words
Like the birds we would fly

If there was time
I’d bring you back to the day you cried
If there was time
Wrap my arms around your heart
If there was time
I’d show you just how hard you tried
If there was time
I’d tear their crime apart

Dreams seem much too small to hold you
And I thank God you’re there when I awake
And no love song has ever told you
The feelings oh so real and how you heal me with the love we make

Where there is you
I find shelter from the rain
Where there is you
There’s comfort in the dark
Where there is you
I can face a world of pain
Where there is you
That’s where you’ll find my heart

That’s where my life will start

Lost Stars

As a child I had a sky filled with light
To keep me safe and warm all through the night
I loved my stars and they loved me no doubt
And then I saw that first star go out

It was a lost star, a single lost star
A lost star that used to be mine
I missed that lost star, where was my lost star?
That lost star I just couldn’t find

I learned to give my constellations names
I was so sure they would remain the same
I knew them inside out, each and every spark
And then turned around and another one went dark

It was a lost star, another lost star
A lost star that used to be mine
I missed that lost star, where was my lost star?
That lost star I just couldn’t find

(Bridge)
As they disappeared the sky stayed deep and wide
It didn’t matter how many tears I cried
And it made me sad, till I realized
Though their light is gone, it never really dies

And it’s the lost stars, all the lost stars
Yes it’s those lost stars that used to be mine
It is the lost stars, all my lost stars
My lost stars that make my day shine

Done

I found the note on the table that told me you’re gone
You made it clear that you’re able to carry on
You didn’t even try to explain
Or accuse me of causing you pain
Just two words on a post-it: I’m done

Grabbed my guitar ‘cause I needed someone to hold
Sitting here and bleeding alone in the cold
But my hands don’t know what to play
For a heart that’s been thrown away
All I hear is an echo – I’m done… I’m done

Flash back to the day that we met
The sound of your laugh, hard to forget
Forever seemed so natural, yet
Here I am and you are done… you’re done

Well, there’s no tears in my eyes, no pain on my tongue
And no bitter good-byes that wait to be sung
It’s as if I was lost in the night
And all at once I’ve just seen the light
Coming out of my blindness
I’m done… so done
Ohhh, I’m done

Men in the Dirt

I have no need for power to get me through the day
So I haven’t any power to be taken away
But still they start a little war to take control instead
Then deify the victors and glorify the dead

How many men in the dirt, tell me why
So many men have to hurt, have to cry, have to die

Yes life is worth defending, but revenge is not the tool
Striking out in anger is the hallmark of a fool
Who builds a new memorial to justify the deed
Pay the price to win again as innocents just bleed

How many men in the dirt, tell me why
So many men have to hurt, have to cry, have to die

(Bridge)
If killing’s wrong, I find it odd
That it’s okay in the name of God
And we’ve lost count of all the bodies
That holy war has placed beneath the sod

Now I respect the soldiers who sacrifice to serve
Men and women risking lives, my gratitude deserve
And when they tell their stories, may their lesson never cease
True heroes don’t seek war’s glory, instead they seek to restore peace

How many men in the dirt, tell me why
So many men have to hurt, have to cry, have to die

Singing My Life

Singing my life to you
Making my dreams come true
Holding you close when day is through
And singing my life to you

Telling my life to you
Letting you know how much I trust
Changing you and me into us
While telling my life to you

And when the time has come to end this silly tale
You’ll find serious inside
For every happy time I’ve laughed out loud
There are as many that I cried

Waiting my whole life for you
I’ve waited oh so many years
And now finally you are here
And I’ll sing my life with you

I Need to Rock

I need to rock, don’t need no rockin’ chair
I need to rock, and you won’t find me there
Sittin’ on the porch and watching time go by
Don’t need a clock, I need to rock

I need to roll, keep truckin’ down that road
I need to roll, still places left to go
Headed up that skyway to the rainbow’s end
To feed my soul, I need to roll

(Bridge)
I’ve heard the rock of ages
Rollin’ in the deep
Never one to worry what I’d lose
And when I reach the stage
That I’m ready to sleep
That’s when I’ll hang up my blue suede shoes

I need to live, still candles left to burn
I need to love and be loved in return
I’m counting every sunrise and still can’t get enough
I need to live, I need to love

Be The One

If there’s a time to see each other
Take a walk in the sun
If there’s a time to help another
Let this moment be the one

If there’s a place for understanding
Then it’s a place for all to live
Not a trace of hearts demanding
It’s in grace where hearts forgive

No other time, no other place
No other people than the human race
No more delay before it’s done
Let this moment be the one

Take a chance to make a difference
Take a breath and then release
On the path of consequences
Find the path that leads to peace

No other time, no other place
No other people than the human race
No more delay before it’s done
Let this moment be the one
